Creating Child Users

The Need for Child Users
Engineers who work with a sales rep will need access to Web-Select® with their own unique username and password. A user can create accounts for others, known as “child users” to their own account. Here’s how:
1. From User Administration.
- Enter your Username and Password. If you are unsure whether you have an account, or you have forgotten your Username or Password, click the “Forgot My Password” link. Enter your Username or E-mail address. If you have an account, your Username and Password will be e-mailed immediately. If you receive a message that your Username or E-mail address are not in the system, Engineers should contact their sales rep to create the account. Sales reps may contact the factory. Include your full name, company name and location, e-mail address, and job title.

The next screen will have a section like this:
2. In the “New User Name” box, type a Username for the individual you’re setting up and click the “Add New User” button. We suggest using the person’s first initial and last name, with no spaces or punctuation. If this Username already exists in the system, use their first and last name (no spaces), or add a number to their Username.
- After you add the User, their Username will show up in your list of Child Users.

The next step is to set up the new User’s information, such as Name, Company, Phone, E-mail and Permission Level.
3. Click “Edit” to the right of the individual’s Username.
4. Enter all pertinent information, including the User’s name, company, phone number, and e-mail address (the e-mail address is important, as it is used to send the person’s password if they forget it in the future).
5. Enter the User’s Account Settings and Permission Level.
- Active: Select to activate the user's account. You may also de-activate the account in the future, should you no longer want this individual to access the site.
- User Can Create Child Users: If User will need to add other Users in the future, such as additional employees in his office.
- User Can Create Projects: If User can create Web-Select projects of his own.
- User Can See Sibling Users: If this individual should see other Users at their level, such as other customers for whom you have created accounts. This option is not recommended.
- Timeout Minutes: Enter the number of minutes of inactivity before the system will request the User’s password again. 30 minutes is suggested.
- PERMISSION LEVEL: “Engineer” allows access to Web-Select. Only Rep Level users (assigned by the factory) may access pricing in Web-Select.
6. Click the “Save User Information” button and you’re all done!
7. Notify the User of their Username, and tell them that upon their first visit to Web-Select, they will be prompted to enter their Username and Password. On their first visit, they should enter only their Username and click the Login button. The system will then ask them to establish a password.

* Note that creating a website account is a separate process from granting access to Web-Select projects. To share a Web-Select project with another user, open the Project Schedule, click on [Users], choose Administer Project Users, add the person's Username to the Project, and assign the appropriate Permission Level to the project.
