Electric Heat Calculations

Thermostat Options ( back to top )

  1. Solid state thermostats are rated for supply voltages from 24 to 277 VAC. Digital non-programmable and digital programmable thermostats are 24 volt only. Thermostat voltage must be same as control valve voltage.
  2. Some thermostats require fan relay package due to motor Amps. See Fan Relay Control Package Requirements table below.
  3. All solid state, digital non-programmable, and digital programmable thermostat control sequences except are "continuous fan/valve cycle" only, and are not suitable for use with modulating valves shown in Piping Package Options table. "Fan cycle only" operation is not recommended. Contact factory for "fan and valve cycle" applications.
  4. All thermostats ship loose and are furnished with terminal strip connection.
  5. Digital non-programmable, and digital programmable thermostats (D and P Series) are designed for mounting on a horizontal junction box. Order vertical mounting adapter plate for installation on a vertically installed junction box.
  6. All thermostats except T10 include an integral 3-speed fan switch. On DX systems, suction pressure may vary with fan speed, resulting in undesirable operation. Thermostats above do not include an "anti-short cycle" feature typically required for proper DX system operation.
  7. Thermostat prices include an aquastat where indicated. Aquastats are sized to match factory piping packages. On units ordered without factory piping package, aquastat furnished is suitable for use with 1/2" piping. Changeover thermostat codes T05, T06, T07, D05, D06, D07, P05 and P06, when ordered with a 2-way piping package, require the addition of a 1/4" bleed line as a Piping Package option.
  8. Aquastat is optional on heat/cool changeover units with field supplied thermostats. When ordered with a 2-way piping package, the 1/4" bleed line is also required.
  9. Thermostats for Vertical Floor Concealed FCU are available as remote mounted only.
  10. Unit mounted thermostats are not available on Vertical Floor Exposed FCU or Vertical Floor Exposed Slope Top FCU with opposite end coil connections.
  11. Programmable thermostats must be field configured for the occupied / unoccupied time periods.

Control Packages ( back to top )
BASIC CONTROL PACKAGES

  1. All basic control packages include an incoming power connection, control wiring terminal block, and 3-speed fan motor wired to a motor wiring terminal block with fan speed selection jumper factory set to high speed.
  2. BC00 includes a line voltage relay to control electric heat. If low voltage control is required, select at least a BC03, BC05, or BC07.
  3. When selecting BC00, BC03, BC05 and BC07, any remote mounted fan control device must not include fan OFF capability unless the OFF position includes a method to prevent electric heat operation.
  4. Factory furnished control transformer is not sized to provide power for devices not shown on the factory wiring diagram.
  5. See Heating Coil notes for option restrictions with opposite end connection coils.

OPTIONAL CONTROL PACKAGES

  1. OC011 includes factory mounted and wired low voltage float operated switch wired to de-energize unit on rise in drain pan condensate level. This option requires one of the following low voltage Basic Control Packages: BC02 – BC07. Not available with BC00 or BC01.
  2. OC012 is not available on units with electric heat. Factory wiring from power to line side of toggle switch is not disconnected from incoming power.
  3. OC013 and OC014 are available on units with or without electric heat.
  4. OC015, OC016, OC017 used with OC013 or OC014 serves as a fused disconnect. Refer to Notes on Electrical Calculations page for disconnect and fuse sizing requirements.
  5. OC018 is wired to high speed motor tap for variable fan speed control down to factory pre-set minimum.
  6. OC020 is not available with Basic Control Package BC03, BC05, or BC07.
  7. OC019 and OC020 are not required with field furnished thermostats that include 3-speed fan control. Not available on factory thermostats with 3-speed fan switches.
  8. See Heating Coils table notes for option restrictions with opposite end connection coils.
  9. Reduced fan speed operation on DX systems may result in decreased suction pressure to a level of undesirable operation. Selection of units, components, and controls is the responsibility of others.
  10. Contact factory for mount and wire of all controls furnished by others.

Piping Packages ( back to top )

  1. Chilled water systems may have 1/2" piping packages; hot water systems may have 1/2" piping packages.
  2. Piping packages are factory assembled and shipped loose for field installation to the fan coil unit.
  3. Control valves are piped normally closed to coil and are two-position (on/off) as standard.
  4. Control valves will be supplied with the same voltage as motor, unless 24-volt control of valve has been specified on order or a BC02-BC07is ordered.
  5. Control valve voltage must be same as thermostat voltage.
  6. Transformer is required with 24 volt control valve unless field furnished; see Control Power Packages table.
  7. Piping packages are not available on DX or steam coils.
  8. Maximum recommended water flow: 1/2" - 8.0 GPM with 40 PSIG close-off pressure maximum. If water flow exceeds 8.0 GPM, contact factory for special pricing.
  9. 208/230/277 volt piping packages have extended lead times. Contact factory for ship cycle.
  10. 3-way control valves are installed as mixing valves as standard.
  11. Memory stop serves as a balancing valve and is provided as an attachment to the ball stop isolation valves in the piping package.
  12. Standard location for unions is at the water coil.  Unions are supplied as standard for all 2-way and 3-way piping packages.
  13. Optional Y-strainer is supplied as standard with a blow down valve.
  14. P/T test ports are located in the piping package to monitor pressure and temperature across coil (both supply & return); price is per coil.

  16. Specify automatic fixed flow GPM per available increments as follows: 0.5 to 4.0 GPM - 0.5 GPM; and 5.0 to 12.0 GPM - 1.0 GPM. Contact factory for GPMs greater than 12.0.
  17. A piping package diagram or detail must accompany the order if accessories are required in locations other than indicated in the notes above. Additional engineering charges will apply and in some cases, alternate piping accessory locations may not be available due to dimensional or application constraints. Contact factory for special pricing and authorization number prior to quoting.
  18. Contact factory for any valve packages that are not listed.
  19. Aquastat bleed line is a 1/4" bypass that maintains waterflow so that the aquastat can sense the changeover point for two-pipe changeover systems. This option must be added to two-pipe changeover units with factory provided thermostats, and may be added for thermostats by others.
  20. Modulating valve and high pressure close-off actuator price adds are per valve package, and are in addition to selected piping package adds. Modulating valves are floating point, fail-in-place. Proportional 0-10 volt or 4-20ma control signals are not applicable with this valve.
  21. Modulating Valves and High Pressure Close-Off Actuators may not be combined.
  22. Modulating Valves are not supported by standard thermostats (Solid State, digital non-programmable, and digital programmable). Contact factory for modulating thermostat pricing.

Outside Air Options ( back to top )

  1. Freezestats are not available with outside air options. During outdoor freezing conditions, damage to the water coil(s) may occur when the outdoor air introduced to the unit is not pre-conditioned. Motorized damper option may not prevent coil freezing under extreme conditions.
  2. Wall box ships loose for field installation.
